  Tomsk is the center of our region. Tomsk region is situated in the southeast part of Siberia. The history of Tomsk is bound up with the history of Russia.

  Tomsk founded in 1604 by the Russian tsar Boris Godunov. At that time a fortress was erected on the right bank of the river Tom to shield off the Russian land from the nomadic tribes. The status of a town Tomsk obtained in 1629. It was a fortress, surrounded by wooden wall with 6 towers.

  Since the end of XIX century Tomsk became a large scientific center of Siberia: in1888, Emperor Alexander III opened the Tomsk University, the first behind the Ural Mountains.

  In 1991 Tomsk was granted the status of the historical town. The town is famous for its stone buildings of the provincial town at the end of XIX century and wooden buildings decorated with ancient carving.
